The Eatery, along with many other dining halls found at other NCAA Div 1 schools, have started a line of NFTs which consist of the college logos as pixel art. The “art” will grant buyers access to the Eatery food. The buyers are “hopefully college students, but there’s no way to regulate that” says the NCAA, who is running the operation. Students will be “able to buy an NFT for a low $2000 for access to their dining halls” and then “able to sell them back to the company for a profit at the end of each semester”. In related news, 95% of NFTs have lost their value. In the tradition of the NCAA, student athletes will not receive any money from this and will have to pay for the NFTs themselves.
According to a survey, most students will not buy the NFTs because who would? However, because the Eatery is locked behind an NFT paywall, Pitt has decided that those who did not pay for it will be forced to subsist off of the industrial waste the Eatery produces, which is different from the food.
